John Bagnato, born Johnstown, PA, a student of Don Cherry at the Naropa Institute. Currently teaching at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation School and the House of Blues Foundation in New Orleans. Received BM, Manhattan School of Music, a MM, University of New Orleans. Performed with Donald Harrison (2000-2011.) Winner of Best Song USA Today. (2010), Recorded with Mario Adnet, a grammy winning arranger for A. C. Jobim, and Bill Summers, Los Hombres Calientes.
Composer for Dillard Theatre productions of Spunk(2005) and Fences(2010)(Winner of Best Soundtrack) and the award winning short film El Taxista(2008.) He has opened for Shirley Horn, Eliades Ochoa, Oliver Mtukudzi, and Steel Pulse, is featured on recordings by John Boutte and Trombone Shorty.
He has performed with Ryan Kisor, Eric Harland, Bill McHenry, John Ellis, and Christian Scott, as well as Busta Rhymes, Wu Tang, and India.Arie. Performances in Cuba, Brazil, South Africa, Guadeloupe, Guiana, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico.
